The Upper Limb

The upper limb is connected to the axial skeleton by, means of the shoulder or pectoral girdle, namely the clavicles and scapulae. The clavicle articulates at its medial end with the manubrium sterni, at the sternoclavicular joint, and laterally above the shoulder with scapular at the Acromioclavicular joint. The clavicle is the only bone of the appendicular skeleton to articulate with the axial skeleton. The clavicle not only holds the shoulder joint at the side of the trunk, but also transmits forces from the arm to the trunk.
